Ceremonies at the shipyard
Maritime ceremonies, such as a ship naming or a delivery ceremony, bring together shipowners, builders, financiers and crews. They mix long-standing traditions with the practical demands of a working shipyard.
Respect the traditions
Ship naming ceremonies follow customs that guests will expect, such as the role of the sponsor and the breaking of a bottle against the hull. Work with the shipowner and shipyard to agree the order of the ceremony.
Access and safety come first
A shipyard is a working industrial site. Guests may need safety briefings, protective equipment and escorts. Agree access arrangements with the yard early, and confirm current rules with the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore where relevant.
Plan for the weather and the setting
Quaysides are exposed to sun, wind and rain. Tentage, seating and a sound system that carries outdoors are essential.
